Fixer Upper Chic

I have always loved a “Fixer Upper”.

Every home except the one I live in now was a fixer upper.

Enjoyment, for me, was the process of taking what was there and transforming it into what I wanted it to be.

That’s the premise of the HGTV show “Fixer Upper”.

Perhaps I love the show because, years ago, when I had my shop,

I used a lot of Farm Style items, mixed with primitive pieces,

Country French and added garden items and antiques.

This layering and mixing is what gives a room visual depth and interest.

For me, the final layer is always fresh herbs, greenery or flowers,

which brings a room to life.

The juxtaposition of simple, rustic pieces placed alongside more refined accents

is unexpected and creates interest.

For me

A room must be interesting to be beautiful.

I’ve recently become obsessed with the HGTV show “Fixer Upper”.

I love Joanna Gaines’ design aesthetic.

She re-purposes items, adds comfortable upholstered pieces and finishes with flea market finds.

Her signature is knocking down walls to create large, open spaces, flooded with light

and accented by lustrous wood floors.

Starting with a minimal background, the “Chic” is added by galvanized buckets, trays,

old architectural salvage pieces, old sheet metal, discarded doors and shutters.

You begin to see the possibilities in all these elements

as they are used in new and unexpected ways.

The white walls and wood floors lend a clean, simple feeling to the room.

It almost feels modern in it’s minimalism and provides the perfect blank canvas.

As Joanna works in the space, she brings warmth with texture and layers.

Her bedroom ( featured in the photo above)

is a great example of elegant simplicity.

Calm colors create a serenity and the bedding, art and chandelier

add the “lusciousness” to this Master Suite.

I have always loved color, but because of Joanna Gaines,

I am beginning to love the subtlety

of white, tone on tone and cooler colors.

Fixer Upper is a great show.

Joanna, her husband and their team transform

ramshackle structures into architectural and design gems.

This is the stuff I live for!

Lots of inspiration, ideas and enjoyment await you.

So, pull up a chair and watch HGTV’s
