I am a sucker for Old Movies, Old Hollywood & Old Glamour.
I don’t think anyone ever looks as divine as Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly did in the 50’s.
There are no more real ‘Movie Stars”
There are a few “serious actors” and
tons of “celebrities”…
People who are famous for having no particular talent,
except that of shameless “self -promotion”.
Very few have that
“je ne sais quois” –
that certain something
that was so magical on-screen and off
in movie stars like Lauren Bacall,
Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.
That was then and this is now.
Out with the old and in with the new..
My problem is: I have issues with “new”.
I’m not into it.
Especially since there’s nothing on me that’s “new” anymore.
I’m all for “new” if it’s better- but not just because it’s “new”.
I can’t help but be nostalgic for Old Hollywood when I see
the new crop of “stars”.
I can’t bring myself to watch all the Award Shows-
Honestly, I don’t really know who many of these people are.
The Academy Awards are always interesting .
I usually watch for the fashion – good and bad.
I watch to see who’s died in the past year
and how close they were to my age.
And I watch to see
who’s had a a lot of good or bad “work done”
since the last Oscar Show .
It’s like knowing there’s going to be a natural disaster-
but not knowing when or how it will occur and who will be involved.
You just can’t turn away for fear you’ll miss it!
While watching people arrive on the Red Carpet, I find myself wondering
if they actually looked in a mirror before they left the house and thought:
“I Look Fabulous!” I am “Rockin’ this dress!”
I could get “Best Dressed” on Fashion Police for this outfit!
Many of them do look wonderful.
But some, who are trying really hard to be “cutting edge” and simply can’t pull it off,
should just say “no” to the dress
or.. they should hire a new stylist.
Or….. they shouldn’t go to Televised Award Shows.
And while we’re at it- let’s be honest:
there is no tattoo on the planet that complements a Christian Dior Gown.
I don’t care who you are!
Of course, all this is easy for me to say!
I’m not a celebrity.
I don’t have to worry when I leave the house that people are hiding in my bushes
waiting for a photo-op .
I don’t need to look my best 24/7.
Thank God that’s not my reality!
I can’t think of anything worse!
These people are being judged by practically everyone in the world
on Academy Awards night
and every time they leave their homes!
So, let’s not be too hard on them!
Enjoy the Show,
and the multiple
” Faux Pas “that will surely occur throughout the evening.
Most of all…
Enjoy your anonymity
and all the benefits that go with it!
We’ll be watching and judging them in their Designer Gowns,
while wearing our flannel PJ’s, mis-matched socks,
with our hair pulled up in a chip-clip!
Isn’t it great NOT being a Celebrity!
